Cultural Competence and Multicultural Care Workgroup Training Exchange: Question and Answer Session

Question: Hi. I wanted to thank you guys for this information. It is really thorough and I'm really looking forward to the final draft of the guidelines and these extra tools and materials. I'm currently working with HRSA HAB and the national AETC on a Web curriculum for providers who are treating HIV-positive and HIV-affected adolescents. The main thrust of this information will not only be clinical care information, but also how to integrate cultural competence into practice. In addition to your organizational self assessment, I wondered if you guys had identified some really good tools for individual self assessment.

Response: Hi, this is Richard. I'm not sure what tools are out there. We really didn't look at those because they are kept separate. I dont know if Jamie might be able to respond to that better. But, in terms of the organizational self assessment, I think that what is in the organizational self assessment tool, one of the gaps we noticed was we had to add the category on provider-patient relationships, which is a little bit more of an individual assessment, but I'm sure there are some good resources out there. I'm not really sure what they are.

Response: Hi, this is Jamie Steiger from the National Resource Center. Through our resource inventory process, we have identified some self assessment tools for individuals. However, I think it would be best if I emailed those resources directly to you Stephen. If you send an email to info@aidsetc.org I will have your email address and will send that to you.
