Background

About This Curriculum

The 2007 version of the HIV Screening and Women's Health curriculum was updated by members of the Curriculum Update Subgroup of the AETC Women's Health and Wellness Workgroup. The original version of the curriculum, HIV/AIDS Case Finding in Family Planning Clinics, was developed in 2002 by MATEC and Health Care Education and Training, Inc. The goal of the curriculum is to promote early diagnosis and care of HIV/AIDS by encouraging HIV screening and education for all clients in family planning clinics. The curriculum consists of six modules, or sections, that are formatted as PowerPoint slide sets. Each slide set contains talking points to assist trainers with the material on the slide. Some of the sections include accompanying handouts that can be disseminated to training participants.

About the Women's Health and Wellness Workgroup

The AETC Women's Health and Wellness Workgroup was charged with the task of facilitating collaboration among the AETCs in the identification, development, and dissemination of materials for HIV providers and educators. After reviewing a resource inventory and through extensive discussion, the workgroup divided into two subgroups and set out to develop tools and resources addressing women's health issues, with a particular emphasis on HIV screening and cervical cancer screening. These tools and resources have been developed collaboratively by experienced providers and educators from the AETCs and Regional Training Centers for Family Planning (RTCs) through their involvement with the AETC workgroup.
