Nursing Care of the HIV-Infected Inmate: A Monograph Series

Source: Albany Medical Center and New York/New Jersey AIDS Education & Training Center

Modules designed to equip correctional nurses with the basic knowledge needed to provide safe, comprehensive care to inmates infected with HIV. Each module provides an overview of a pertinent topic so that correctional nurses have a reference tool readily available for their care of HIV-infected inmates.

Description: Learning objectives: (1) Outline the basic components of the human immune system that are targeted by HIV; (2) Describe the process of HIV replication and infection; (3) Discuss the progression of HIV disease as outlined in the classification system; and (4) Describe how HIV/AIDS manifests itself at different stages of disease.
