Reaching the AETC Network and Beyond: Marketing and Promotion of the AETC Program

Date of Report: 11/2007
Source: AETC National Resource Center

Many activities of the AETC National Resource Center (NRC) are related to marketing and promotion of the entire AETC program. Such activities include: 1) developing materials to form a national identity for the AETC program, 2) representing the AETC network at national meetings and conferences, 3) building relationships with national professional organizations that represent the target audience of the AETC program, and 4) providing access to resources developed by regional, local, and national AETCs via the AETC NRC website, www.aidsetc.org.

Over the past year, there have been several specific marketing and promotion activities that are noteworthy.

Conferences. The National Clinicians? Consultation Center (NCCC), National Minority AETC (NMAETC), and NRC have shared several national conference exhibit booths in an effort to maximize opportunities for promoting the AETC network. Conferences that had an AETC presence include:

dot Ryan White CARE Act (RWCA) Training and Technical Assistance Grantees Meeting 2006 (Washington, DC)
space
dot 9th Annual RWCA Clinical Update (Washington, DC)
space
dot 4TC Collaboration Meeting (Albuquerque, NM)
space
dot 13th Annual Rural Minority and Multicultural Health Conference (Anchorage, AK)
space
dot National Rural Health Association 2007 Annual Conference (Anchorage, AK)
space
dot 10th Annual RWCA Clinical Update (Phoenix, AZ)
space
dot National Association of Community Health Centers (NACHC) 2007 Community Health Institute and Expo (Dallas, TX)
space

There were a significant number of visitors to the AETC program booth and a great interest in the resources of the network at each of these conferences. Furthermore, AETC resources were distributed at 30 additional conferences staffed by NCCC, NMAETC, and regional or local AETCs.

AETC Promotion Package. In summer 2007, the NRC enhanced the AETC promotion package by updating the directory, brochure, and posters as well as developing a new AETC map and bookmark. The AETC Directory 2007 Edition contains several new vignettes showcasing the efforts of the AETCs and continues to provide contact information for the entire network. The AETC Brochure was redesigned and edited to better highlight the activities of the AETCs. It includes a newly color coded map of the regional AETCs, which is also available for download from the website. The laminated AETC posters, which highlight the AETC mission, services, and target audience, have been updated to capture the detail found in the directory and brochure. The posters will be distributed to all AETCs for use at conferences or other regional events. Finally, the AETC Bookmark is a newly developed promotional tool that can be used at events as a useful giveaway.

AETC NRC Website, www.aidsetc.org. Each regional and national AETC has its own page on the website that includes contact information, web links, regional newsletters, and fact sheets. These pages regularly receive several hundred views each quarter, an indication that web users are entering the website to seek contact information for the AETCs.

The NRC Website Usage Summary is prepared semiannually. This summary captures the number of hits, visitors, file downloads, and bookmarks as well as the most frequently downloaded resources. In 2006-07 the number of website hits increased by 4 percent, file downloads increased by 16 percent, and number of bookmarks to the website increased by 79 percent, from the year before. With an average of 66,000 visitors monthly, the website promotes the AETC network through its visibility and quality. In addition, the NRC website is consistently listed in the top three websites returned in the Google Search engine when using search terms such as "HIV AIDS Training" and "AIDS Education".
