Earl "Nupsius" Benjamin joined the Mississippi Local Performance Site (LPS) of the Delta Region AETC in June 2007. Nupsius came to the AETC after working several years in the public health field with an emphasis on HIV. He held roles such as program director of the premier HIV prevention and intervention training program in Mississippi. He was also the co-founder of the state's first African-American focused LGBT community-based organization.
Because of his extensive work in the field, Nupsius was able to quickly expand the variety of trainings that the LPS offered in regards to HIV in minority populations. HIV disproportionately impacts minority communities within Mississippi-in 2007, over 75% of new cases in Mississippi were found in African Americans. In response, Nupsius has led the creation of many Minority AIDS Initiative specific trainings, including efforts with Historically Black Colleges and Universities.

Although Nupsius is leaving the AETC workforce for a new public health opportunity in January 2010, the Delta Region AETC greatly appreciates his efforts. The legacy of his work will continue to grow to support the increased need for training of caregivers to minority populations in Mississippi.
