Behavior Change Exercise: This is a brief exercise to help participants understand the complexity of behavior change, and also introduces the concept of the ?Stages of Change.?
Staging Questions: This is an algorithm for identifying the patient's readiness or stage of change.
Readiness Ruler: The Readiness Ruler is a simple tool to help the clinician ?stage? the client, based on the client's stated readiness for change.
Staging Practice Sheet: This handout contains statements that are characteristics of the various stages of change. Participants try to determine which stage is express by the statement. This is an excellent tool to help participants practice identifying the stages of change based on statements a client might make.
Script for Readiness for Change: This script provides a sample of how the clinician can discuss HIV prevention with patients.
