Evidence of Success - Summary and Conclusion

Summary and Conclusion

The 11 regional AIDS Education and Training Centers, along with the national centers, are among the largest network of professional training providers for HIV treatment education in the world. They seek to improve HIV-related and primary care for underserved populations by strengthening the capacity of providers to understand and treat these populations. Information presented in this report reveals that the AETC program is fulfilling its mission. A large proportion of AETC program participants are of minority origin and/or are serving a heavy minority caseload. Many are frontline providers of HIV treatment, physicians, and advanced practice nurses. The AETCs help to strengthen provider knowledge and skills by teaching about advanced clinical management topics as well as topics relevant to understanding and working with the special populations served by many of the trainees. Employees of RWCA-funded agencies form a large proportion of the total trainees and are enabled to acquire the latest treatment knowledge and skills. Collectively, these training activities contribute to enhancing both the quality and the continuity of HIV-related care provided to underserved and vulnerable populations across the United States.
