Drake, MD Chancellor University of California, Irvine United States Canciller Universidad de California, Irvine Estados Unidos Michael V. Drake, MD, Chancellor of the University of California, Irvine (UCI), was recognized for his early advocacy of the California/Mexico Health Initiative. Under his leadership, UCI has garnered a host of achievements in research, education and public service. Today, more students are seeking a UCI education than ever before, leading to record total enrollment and making UCI among the fastest-growing campuses in the UC system. UCI's connection with the local community continues to deepen, as evidenced by record-breaking fundraising that is topping $100 million annually. UCI is pioneering research breakthroughs that are improving - even saving - lives, including stem cell research that has made the campus one of California's leaders in the field. UCI is moving ahead rapidly on several initiatives that will strengthen its distinguished reputation, such as building a new hospital at the nationally ranked UC Irvine Medical Center, developing a new law school, and launching new programs in nursing science, pharmaceutical sciences and public health. UCI has continued its ambitious expansion by completing or undertaking more than 30 on-time and on-budget construction projects totaling $1.4 billion and 5.4 million square feet. These efforts will provide a strong foundation for UCI's development as a world-class university. Chancellor Drake is an active member of several scientific and scholarly societies.
