Note: APEP is the only HIV/AIDS-specific community-based not for profit organization assisting persons in the West Texas (Region 10) area. APEP offers assistance to any person in the region who is faced with emergency expenses due to HIV/AIDS-related needs. APEP helps with medications, medical supplies, utilities, and funeral expenses. Note: VAC provides clinical training; free HIV testing (all testing is anonymous and confidential); professional medical care - physician, RN, nurse practitioner, and two LVNs on staff; case management; educational presentations; financial assistance (sliding fee scale); spiritual counseling; support groups; transportation (when needed); clinical trials; socialization (luncheons, picnics, etc). (Services are based on funding and client eligibility. With exception of HIV/AIDS primary care not available in McAllen, all services are available in all facilities.) In addition to AETC funding, VAC receives Ryan White Program funding. Services available in Spanish.
