dotHIV Vaccine Awareness Day: May 18th

Note: Despite much research, there still is not a vaccine for HIV/AIDS. All Americans, especially communities of color and men who have sex with men, need to learn more about HIV vaccine research in order to make an HIV vaccine a reality.

dotNational Asian & Pacific Islander HIV/AIDS Awareness Day: May 19th

Note: According to the CDC, the number of APIs living with AIDS has climbed by more than 10 percent in each of the last 5 years. Sixty-seven percent of API men living with HIV/AIDS in 2005 are men who have had sex with other men. Eighty percent of API women living with HIV/AIDS in 2005 were infected through heterosexual contact.

dotSpecial Announcement: CDC Interim Guidance for HIV and Swine Flu

CDC has released interim guidance on H1N1 influenza virus in HIV-infected individuals. To summarize, patients with HIV are at higher risk for more severe influenza and should be treated as high-risk individuals. There is no absolute contraindications for co-administration of oseltamivir or zanamivir, the two drugs recommended to be used for prevention and treatment of H1N1, with currently available antiretroviral medications.
