dotHIVMA Minority Clinical Fellowship Program: March 15 Application Deadline

Note: The HIV Medicine Association (HIVMA) created the Minority Clinical Fellowship Program to increase the number of African American and Latino physicians with the expertise to provide clinical care to patients with HIV in the communities most affected by HIV disease. Two one-year fellowships are awarded annually with one targeted to an African American physician and one to a Latino physician interested in pursuing a career in HIV medicine in the United States. During the fellowship year, fellows manage the ongoing care of patients with HIV disease under the supervision of an HIVMA mentor. The award includes a $60,000 stipend plus funding to support benefits for one year.

Applications are being accepted for the 2010 to 2011 fellowship year, which will start on July 1, 2010. Eligible candidates will be physicians of African American or Latino descent; will have completed their residency by July 2010 or be within the first five years of their medical practice; and will have a demonstrated interest in HIV medicine. The program is not intended for physicians that have completed or that plan to complete an infectious diseases fellowship.

An application along with information on current and past fellows is available online at www.hivma.org. The deadline to apply for the two fellowships that begin in July 2010 is March 15, 2010.

Contact Jennifer Rainey at jrainey@hivma.org with questions or for more information.

dotTARGET Feature: HIV Outreach Targeting Women

Note: A pilot project to explore the best way to reach women living with HIV through outreach activities is featured in this month's TARGET Feature. Pilot findings, issued in a report, examine differences in traditional in-person versus online meetings to develop a self-care health promotion campaign by women infected or affected by HIV. The project was carried out by the HIV/AIDS NRC at the Francois-Xavier Bagnoud Center under a cooperative agreement with HRSA/HAB.

To see the report look for the Feature Article on the TARGET Center at: http://careacttarget.org
