It provides basic information about the progression of HIV disease, the meaning and use of viral load and CD4 tests and the goals of treatment for children.

Synopsis of NRC Consumer Reviews: Reviewers found this to be a valuable piece for "parents, caregivers, case managers, nurses and other medical providers caring for children with HIV/AIDS." Reviewers said the booklet is an "excellent overview" of pediatric HIV/AIDS and that it "clearly defines medical terminology." One reviewer commented that this is a "lengthy" piece, but not so much so that it would "scare parents away." Reviewers stated that the booklet presents medical information in a user-friendly fashion by including children's drawings, bold titles to assist in guiding the reader and a glossary for quick reference to information.

Important Note: The NRC content reviewer commented that this booklet may be helpful to anyone taking care of a child with HIV, including medical staff, social workers and families. But, the content reviewer also felt that some families may need assistance reading and interpreting the information in the booklet due to the high reading level.
