SYNOPSIS/DESCRIPTION:
According to this brochure, risks are low, but contracting infections from pets and animals is possible. This brochure describes the types of infections someone living with HIV may be exposed to when around pets and animals. It points out simple steps to take to reduce the chances of coming in contact with these infections, such as, hand washing, avoid touching animals' stool and avoid strays.
SYNOPSIS OF CONSUMER REVIEW:
Reviewers agree that this brochure is most helpful for people newly diagnosed with HIV. One reviewer commented, "for the most part I have been discouraged to have pets, this brochure makes people more comfortable" with that decision. The reviewers also found this piece very easy to read, "short and to the point." They recommend that the brochure also be distributed to care givers and friends of a persons living with HIV since they may need assistance with pet care.
