SUDS HIV-1 Test (Murex) Not Available [Letter from Abbott Diagnostics, Oct. 17, 2000]: Abbott Diagnostics has notified customers that the SUDS HIV-1 test is "experiencing manufacturing problems related to the failure to meet certain panel and negative control specifications." This was announced October 17, 2000, and the test has not been available since that time. This is the only rapid test for HIV that had been approved by the FDA. Our contacts with the company in early January 2001 indicate no information about the possible date of availability of this product, nor of other rapid HIV tests that are currently being tested.
