Texas Man Gets HIV From Donated Blood [Baltimore Sun, February 10, 2002, 8A] This is report of a 51-year-old man who underwent emergency cardiac bypass. It represents the first case of documented transmission of HIV since the more rigorous screening was introduced three years ago. The probability of HIV transmission with this screen is estimated at 1 per 2-3 million transfusions.
