South Africa Vs. Big Pharma [Birmingham K. Nature Medicine 2001;7:390]: This is a "News" report in Nature Medicine concerning the status of the legal challenge of the South African government to import patented HIV drugs at low prices without permission of the manufacturer. The legality of this activity was challenged in a class action law suit filed in February 1998 by 39 pharmaceutical companies. The case was originally scheduled to begin March 5, 2001, but has been postponed to April 18, 2001.
