WHO Provides AIDS Drug List

Drug Firms' Representatives Express Concern Over WHO's AIDS Drug List [Clare Kapp. Lancet 2002;359:1134]: This report in the "Policy and People" section of Lancet is a comment on the March 20, 2002 WHO publication on the first list of products which meet the recommended standards for procurement by UN agencies. The list can be seen at http://www.who.int/medicines/. Included are all currently FDA-approved antiretroviral agents except tenofovir. Also included are 3TC, AZT and nevirapine as a single pill produced by Cipla in India. It is noted that 100 additional products are currently under review.
