South Africa Turns to Research in the Hope of Settling AIDS Policy [Nature 2000;405:105]: This story, related to the one above, deals with the plan of President Mbeki to settle the dispute regarding the relationship between HIV and AIDS. This will be done by a 36-member panel including 12 Americans and 10 Africans. Nearly half are "dissidents." The panel will have a "closed Internet debate" for four - six weeks and then convene for a four-day discussion prior to the World AIDS Congress scheduled for July 9, 2000. posted 6/6/2000
