HIV-infected
pregnant women and vertical transmission in Europe since 1986 [European
Collaborative Study. AIDS 2001;15:761]:This is an analysis
of 2,876 pregnant women and 3,076 infants in Europe who were assessed
for outcome. In 1999, 44% received HAART, 71% had C-sections, and
the rate of perinatal transmission of HIV was 2.6%. According to
multivariate analysis, the risk of vertical transmission was reduced
by 66% with the 076 regimen and by 60% with elective C-section.
