AIDS Rising Again in San Francisco [Reuters, The Baltimore Sun, July 1, 2000, pg 3A]: City health officials in San Francisco have announced a "sharp jump" in the number of new HIV infections in San Francisco. The peak of new infections was reached in 1982 with 6,000. The rate through most of the 1990's has been about 500/year, but the estimate for 2000 is now 800- 900, with gay men accounting for 575 of the new infections according to Dr. Willi McFarland of the San Francisco Department of Health. posted 7/19/2000
