NEWS AND NEW DEVELOPMENTS

National HIV Testing Day - June 27, 2000 [MMWR 2000; 49: 529]: The National Association of People with AIDS sponsored the sixth annual National HIV Testing Day on June 27, 2000, including a national campaign to promote testing. This report shows the results of this national campaign by analysis of the number of tests during the week before and the week of the national testing day for 1994 to 1998. The 1994 experience predated the national testing day and showed no difference -- testing on June 27 was no different than on any other day in June. The most recent experience was for 1998, which showed tests totaled 36,221 for the week before June 27, and 41,744 the week of June 27, an increase in 5,523 or about 14%. The number who tested positive was 570 the week before June 27, and 640 the week of June 27. posted 8/3/2000
