Limit HIV Wasting Facial Change [Walsh
N. Internal Medicine News 8/15/2001 p. 24]: The author reviews
a presentation by Dr. Alastair Carruthers from Vancouver which was
presented at the annual meeting of the Canadian Dermatology Association.
A loss of facial fat was cosmetically corrected by Gore-Tex implants.
The initial postoperative swelling improved appearance, but two
months later, about three out of four patients required a second
implant. Others had "lumpiness," which was improved with
silicon oil injections.
