AIDS in Romania [Lancet 2000;356:1090]: This is
a brief update on AIDS in Romania, where there is growing concern
about the increasing number of cases in adults. Most of the 2,340
cases of AIDS in Romania are in children aged 5-9 years who acquired
the disease from contaminated medical equipment while living in
institutions. According to more recent data, there are 391 cases
in women in 2000 compared to 37 cases in 1991. The major risk is
unprotected sex. posted 10/6/2000
